Specializing in Diabetic Foot Care

For patients with diabetes, it is important to take great care of your feet. Even a small cut on your foot can result in serious consequences. Trust Dr. Brian Meyerberg to give you the proper care and resources to prevent infection and or a non-healing wound.

Safety Measures for Your Feet

There are many ways to ensure great foot health if you have diabetes. These methods include:

Inspecting Your Feet Daily

Use a hand mirror to inspect the bottom of your feet. If you notice anything, please give Dr. Meyerberg a call.

Wearing Clean, Dry Socks

Make sure that you are changing your socks daily.

Wearing Socks To Bed

If your feet usually get cold at night, wear socks for added comfort instead of using a heating pad or hot water bottle.

Keeping Your Feet Warm and Dry

Wear socks to prevent your feet from getting wet in the rain or snow.

Bathing in Lukewarm Water

Be sure to wash your feet daily. Use the same water temperature that you would use on a newborn baby. Your feet are delicate, too!

Checking For Nerve Circulation

If you think that you may have nerve damage in your foot, please give Dr. Meyerberg a call. Low circulation can cause serious pain and affect your balance and coordination.

Trimming Your Nails Properly

Try not to cut your nails too short to avoid ingrown toenails. You can also try to cut them straight across and file the edges.

Treat Any Calluses/Ulcers Immediately

The distance between the skin and bones in your foot is very short. In order to heal your callus properly, debridements are needed to treat the skin of your foot.

Wearing Correctly-Fit Shoes

Wear shoes that will not cause blisters on your feet. Remember to check out your shoes before you put them on, just in case there is a pebble or other object that may hurt your foot.

Keep Your Feet Moisturized

Protect your skin from any itchiness or cracking. Try to avoid moisturizing in between your toes as this could cause a fungal infection.

Stay On Top of Your Foot Exams

Visiting Dr. Meyerberg on a consistent basis can help prevent any complications of diabetes in your foot.
